Beitrag [2.1.14] Europapark announces Record - Insider »

The German amusement park is ending 2013 on a high note, announcing a record 5 million visitors in 2013.

Opened in 1975, the theme park is currently the second largest in Europe after the far more popular Disneyland Paris, which was visited by 15 million people last year.

Europa-Park, which includes around 50 rides and attractions in themed areas named for European countries, is located in the German city of Rust, near Freiburg and just across the Swiss and French borders. Roughly half of the theme park's visitors come from these two countries; in 2013, Europa-Park hosted 1.3 million visitors from France and 1.2 million from Switzerland. The number of visitors from both countries increased from the previous year.

Open only in the summer, spring and a few weeks in the winter, the park will close its doors and its end-of-year celebrations on January 6, concluding a winter season in which it was attended by 500,000 visitors. Europa-Park will re-open on April 5, 2014 with a much-anticipated new attraction: "Arthur in the Minimoys Kingdom", a ride inspired by Luc Besson's "Arthur and the Invisibles" film trilogy. - AFP/Relaxnews, January 2, 2014.
